The story dates back 2000. When I was a kid, I was an apple of parent’s eyes. Because a turned up phenomenally good in Arts- Dance, Creating Artistic Pieces, Writing & I had my way with Words because of voracious Reading. Obviously not so good in Math!
Well, my mother, she just thought I may in future bring the change she sought from this mediocre small town; I will be her wings & my talent in Extra Curricular, mine!
But as usual Math was the biggest bully of my life, but the world hasn’t evolved enough to see that, yet! Isn’t it! Math is compulsory to grow, it was all ok until the board were not in the Picture… but then We all have to grow up.
And so my passion for Words- storytelling, nurtured by my mom, was overlooked in the temple of knowledge -SCHOOL. Slowly forgotten! I was the one who read loudly in all the classes, I was the one who gathered maximum kids to play; I was the one who sorted her every dilemma in class with words. Because I saw Magic in words & Math was logic. It was reality & I preferred dreaming.
Not much has changed since then, I was declared with no future, for Math was not my cup of tea, because apparently you need Calculus is solve the mystery of Life, and Words? ?Nah, they are just coping mechanism!!
My story telling capabilities was Nothing, which by the way actually made all the children my school believe the Chudel in the washroom (Witch in the bathroom) for years & no one went to the loo alone!
And not because it had no scope in the eye of my parents, for every parent cherish seek pride in their kid’s Talent. Until that talent takes over their passion for career! Well mine was killed by a Murmur! A murmur what still haunts me…. A line that keeps challenging me on my cloudy days …………. That gave birth to the Rebel in Me.. it came from someone who is meant to be your lighting guide your TEACHER..
“Nautanki Sirf Bheed Ikttha Karti Hai Samman Nahi… A Little Drama Can Add On Your Audience But Not Dignity!”
This was enough to touch the pride of my father & hurt my mother; and to keep their talented & Creative Daughter to take just a step back for the sake of Studies, for the sake of MBA.
It is there with me, that HAUNTING MURMURS by my personal Ghost of Math called Tirpathi Sir!
But the ironical part is WORDs & DRAMA is indispensable to Marketing, Advertising, Writing, Mass Communication, Media- DJ VJ RJ, Acting, Visual/Audio Art, any stream of Performing Arts as a matter of Fact in any sort of COMMUNICATION in the world.
Even whatsapp had to increase the number of emoji to magnify the power of Storytelling or should I say DRAMA for communication on Whatsapp.
A person whose world is limited to the periphery of a BLOCKED MIND may never see it!
FYI Curious Child with Inventive stories, who not just did MBA topped all her exams once Maths was out of picture, became a Creative Head & Writer!
So find out the little & absurd talents of your kids, you never know what history they create.
P.S.- I never said Maths in not important, it is in fact indispensable but find out the kind of Math your kid is good at- Business Acumen, Einstein wala Maths, Architect wala Maths or any other sort of Math because trust me there are many 🙂
P.P.S- Well, schools now are not that bad, have seen it myself, the Prejudice in the society for kids who are bad in Math, stay unmoved!
